Hi, I’m Lottie - and I teach mindful, creative, and body positive sewing courses so you can make gorgeous clothes that actually fit!
Sounds good, right? But how many times have you sat down at your machine and created something that either wasn’t your style or simply didn’t fit your body shape?
Mhmm, I’ve seen it far too many times to count!
The short story? The sewing world has developed a bit of a reputation for doing everything ‘perfectly’, showcasing women of a certain shape, pushing standard sizing, and oversimplifying the process.
The problem with standard sizing is it makes a whole heap of assumptions about your shape. B-cup with a two inch difference between your high bust and full bust, an 11” crotch depth, most styles usually designed to sit an inch or so below your natural waist…
The outcome?
Feeling like your body is an unusual shape or size, and struggling to get anything to fit! But here’s the thing… your body is NOT the problem.
And let’s not forget how creating something for ourselves should get to feel. You shouldn’t want to throw your sewing machine out of the window. You shouldn’t feel this intense pressure on yourself to finish a garment in a certain time frame. And you shouldn’t feel like you’re never going to get it right.
Sewing gets to be empowering and fun. It gets to be something that grounds you after a busy day. It gets to be something that genuinely lights you up inside. It gets to be whatever you want it to be - because the process is just as important as the finished product.
And that’s exactly what we promote at Wild Orchard Sewing Co.
Are you ready to flip the script?
